Cosmetic Surgery Credentials

American Academy Of Cosmetic Surgery

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) is a professional medical society whose members are dedicated to patient safety and physician education in cosmetic surgery. Its members specialize in cosmetic surgery. The AACS is the organization that represents cosmetic surgeons in the American Medical Association through its seat in the AMA House of Delegates. The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery provides in-depth instructional fellowship programs to advance a physician’s education in cosmetic surgery and enhance clinical skills.

Post-residency fellowships provide comprehensive training with leading specialists in various fields for an unmatched educational experience. The AACS has over twenty fellowship programs located across the country specializing in the field of cosmetic surgery.

American Board Of Cosmetic Surgery

The mission of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) is to serve the public by promoting the safe and ethical practice of the specialty of cosmetic surgery. Diplomates of the ABCS shall demonstrate the highest standards of training, knowledge, and expertise, as determined by a process of peer review and standardized examination and certification.

The following is a list of goals for The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery:

To establish training standards

To achieve and maintain the highest professional standards in cosmetic surgery

To establish a method for the qualification of specialists in cosmetic surgery and a certification system

To carry out such goals and objectives in full compliance with all laws and regulations relating to equivalent surgical specialists.

University Of Michigan

The University of Michigan General Surgery Residency Program is designed to provide the foundational instruction and experience necessary for the development of exceptionally-talented independent practitioners of surgery in any setting. The program is uniquely able to prepare the future leaders of academic surgery.

The Department of Surgery is nationally recognized for the excellence of its surgical training programs and consistently attracts outstanding candidates for trainee positions at the resident and fellowship levels. The surgical heritage at The University of Michigan is unusually strong and associated with such names as Charles deNancrede, Hugh Cabot, John Alexander, Cameron Haight, Reed Nesbit, Frederick Coller, C. Gardner Child, Jeremiah Turcotte, Arnold Coran, Norman Thompson, Lazar Greenfield and many others.

There are over 100 full-time faculty members including basic scientists in biochemistry, immunology, bioengineering and physiology whose expertise enriches many areas of investigation. The program provides for supervised experience in all areas that constitute the principal components of general surgery.

Drexel University

Drexel University College of Medicine represents the consolidation of two venerable medical schools with rich and intertwined histories: Hahnemann Medical College and Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania. Established in 1848 and 1850, respectively, they were two of the earliest medical colleges in the United States, and Woman’s was the first medical school for women in the world.

Today, with more than 1,000 medical students, Drexel University College of Medicine is educating one in every 73 medical students in the nation. Graduate students number more than 700, and the College is the academic partner in the education of some 600 medical residents. There are more than 700 clinical and basic science faculty, and more than 1,700 affiliate and volunteer faculty.

Ambulatory Accreditation (Amb)

Physicians often seek accreditation for their facilities to demonstrate to their patients and communities their commitment to quality and patient safety. Many facilities seek accreditation voluntarily; others are required to do so to meet state, professional society, or association requirements.

IMQ’s Ambulatory Program accredits a wide range of facilities (see side bar). The program offers facilities a practical, meaningful, and cost-effective method for ensuring quality health care and achieving accreditation. IMQ is recognized by authorities in a number of states and has expanded its programs to include facilities around the country.
